Anatomy of Gray goes to Lincoln, NE

August 3, 2006

As the sun beat down on a stone staircase in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the International Thespian Society Conference, the twenty people gathered together there showed many mixed emotions.

To any other person passing by, the sight wouldn’t have been too special, but to those 20 this was a monumental moment. This was the cast and crew of Anatomy of Gray, the production The Rose Curtain Players had put all of their heart and soul into throughout the past year. From Kentucky’s State Conference to the South East Theatre Conference (SETC) to finding out they’d be sharing this beautiful story with their fellow Thespians in Nebraska, they had gone on a journey they would never forget. That journey had come to an end in a blurred, heartfelt performance in this simple tale of love and loss.

As the theatre emptied the cast and crew connected with friends, family, admirers and the soothing smoothies, crafted by Nebraska’s own Juice Stop. Two of the actors, Claron Hayden and Sarah Carlisle, basked in, not only the smoothie, but also the now enveloping sense of satisfaction and sorrow. They were now leaving these characters that were, forever, a part of them.

Getting up from that staircase to carry on with their International experience, they knew they had just shown that Kentucky Thespians are more than capable of performing great theatre. And we are sure that at Confeence, 2007, we will be among Thespians who will continue to prove this true.

The Rose Curtain Players invited to perform in Scotland

April 21, 2006

Hello, family and friends!

Below you will see information that our school just send out and I wanted to share with all of you!

We just received word from the American High School Theatre Festival organization that the Rose Curtain Players have been selected to perform at the International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland in August of 2007.

Of the 500,000 plus high school theatre programs in the United States, about 1,200 are invited to apply for this event. Of the 1,200 about 40 schools are invited to participate. We are fortunate to be one of those forty schools.

To apply, we were required to complete a ten page application that discussed the past three years of our theatre program, and required details on our past productions, school system support, and the growth of our program. We also had to supply clips of productions, news paper articles, and testimonials from our supporters.

In August of 2007, we will take a troupe of actors and technical members. We will spend three days in London, taking in the sights and seeing a West End show and then we will spend eleven days in Edinburgh where we will perform four times at the world renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We will also get to take a variety of tours and attend many other productions. This International Festival brings in theatre troupes from around the world and we will have the opportunity to see their works.

In August of 2006, I will spend a week in Edinburgh, Scotland on a "familiarization trip" to learn the ins and outs of the festival.

We are thrilled to be one of the few schools from Kentucky to ever have been selected for this major honor.
